How to reach Kumbhalgarh Fort

Kumbhalgarh Fort is located at a distance of 80 kms from Udaipur in Rajasmand district. It is popularly visited on a day’s excursion from Udaipur. Udaipur is very well connected to all the major cities of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

What I would suggest you is to rent a bike from Udaipur and take a road trip, as the routes from Udaipur to Kumbhalgarh Fort are quite scenic. Many people combine visiting Kumbhalgarh Fort with Haldi Ghati and Jain temples of Ranakpur.

No vehicles are allowed after the fort entrance gate, so the only option to explore the fort is by walking and it’s all worth it. There are some attractions located close to the main entrance and can be visited in 1-2 hours. But if you want to see the entire complex, it may take up to 6-7 hours.

So the very next day I asked my dad to accompany me on a bike trip for visiting this historic place. The road journey is breathtaking, especially in the monsoons with lush green mountains of Aravalli range in the vicinity. It took us nearly 2 hours from Udaipur to reach Kumbhalgarh Fort, inclusive of few stops on the way.

Now it was time to walk on “The Great Wall of India” which was the primary reason for visiting the fort. The wall stretches for a distance of 36 km and is 15 m wide, broad enough to stand eight horses side by side. The wall is built out of the stone bricks and passes through the valleys of the Aravalli ranges.

Every evening, there is a light and sound show starting at 6:45 PM. It showcases the rich culture of the royal Rajput’s through music and lights. The entire fort is illuminated for about an hour and views are simply majestic. There is a lot more to explore in the fort and a single day trip is insufficient for it.

A trek to Parshuram Mahadev temple should not be missed on your trip to the Fort. It is believed that Lord Parshuram made the cave with his axe and used to worship Lord Shiva. There are 500 stairs to reach down to the ancient cave.
